Jiah Khan Suicide Case: Verdict expected on April 28

In the actor Jiah Khan suicide case, a special Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai has reserved judgement. Almost ten years before, on June 3, 2013, Jiah's mother Rabia Khan discovered daughter hanging from the ceiling of her home in Mumbai's Juhu neighbourhood.

The Juhu Police detained actor Suraj Pancholi, Jiah Khan's then-boyfriend, for aiding suicide after a 6-page letter allegedly written by Jiah was discovered at her home. It was asserted that the suicide letter was evidence against Suraj and that it represented their turbulent relationship.

However, Jiah's mother Rabia Khan had alleged that her daughter had been killed and had petitioned the Bombay high court, claiming that the local police had failed to adequately probe Jiah's unfortunate demise.

The Juhu police case had been turned over to the CBI by the HC on July 3, 2014. The agency also came to the same conclusion: suicide. According to the CBI, Jiah described her ordeal, close friendship, physical abuse, and alleged mental and physical torture at the hands of Pancholi in her note, which caused her to commit suicide.

The prosecution questioned 22 witnesses, including Jiah's mother, who confirmed that it was a murder case and testified that Pancholi used to physically and verbally abuse her daughter. Rabia testified in court that neither the police nor the CBI had gathered any "legal evidence" to support the suicide of her daughter.

PTI quoted Prashant Patil, who was appearing for Suraj, sayig, “We concluded the final arguments today (Thursday) on facts as well as on merits in the matter of Sooraj Pancholi versus CBI.”

He added, “We relied upon certain landmark judgments of the honourable Supreme Court as well as high court to point out as to how the current case does not fall under the category of abetment to suicide. Now the matter is listed for passing of final judgment (on April 28).”

Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan won’t release in Delhi’s crucial single screens as Zee Studios asks them to play Deol’s Gadar 2 over Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal

The much-awaited film, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, starring Salman Khan has finally released today in cinemas. Starring Salman Khan, this action entertainer has got a wide release in more than 4000 screens across the country. However, certain single screens in Delhi had no choice but to skip playing this film.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Theatres like Liberty, Delite and Amba are not playing Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. This is because Zee Studios, the distributors of the Salman Khan-starrer, asked them to sign a contract whereby they’ll have to compulsorily play the Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidaan and Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel starrer Gadar 2.”

The source continued, “This was not acceptable to these theatres as Gadar 2 clashes with the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal on August 11. They didn’t want to lose out on it as it can also work big time. On the other hand, Maidaan releases on June 23, a week after Adipurush. The Prabhas-starrer can surprise and the exhibitors felt that it was not a good idea to discontinue playing it and replace it with Maidaan, especially if it’s doing well.”

With no other option, these theatres have decided to play Chengiz, a Bengali film dubbed in Hindi. Amba and Delite have even decided to re-release Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan. Liberty, on the other hand, is playing two shows of Chengiz and three shows of the Punjabi film Annhi Dea Mazaak Ae. It has released today and stars Ammy Virk.

However, another source said, “The discussions are going on and the issue will be resolved soon. Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan will release in Delite. The other cinemas are also expected to follow suit.”

Meanwhile, there were reports that a similar issue had cropped up in other circuits as well, over revenue-sharing terms. But the problem was resolved yesterday.

EXCLUSIVE: Ankur Bhatia to play gay character in Sushmita Sen starrer Taali: 'It'll remain the most astounding experience for me'

After receiving critical acclamation for portraying the grey-shaded character in the two fantastic seasons of Aarya, Ankur Bhatia is all set to up his game with Sushmita Sen starrer Taali. Taali is a social driven film primarily revolving around a transgender character and its attempt to shed focus on LGBT rights and create a tolerant society. Surprisingly, the film is going to be the second time Ankur Bhatia and Sushmita Sen will share the screen and create wonders again after Aarya. Unwrapping the layers of his unique character, Ankur Bhatia recently opened up about his role in the film.

He said, "Taali will remain the most astounding experience for me. I am playing Navin, a gay character in the film. I did quite a lot of research to understand the LGBT community, their emotions, and their perspective. Of course, I had to be conscious and attentive enough to play a character that would communicate the right message and won't come as offensive. The director of the film, Ravi Jadhav sir wanted to keep a very delicate and thoughtful approach towards the whole film and it was with the same elements that we worked on it. Navin runs an NGO for LGBT rights and is a very soft character to play indeed."

Ravi Jadhav-directed Taali is set to start streaming on Voot in June. Ankur Bhatia will be also seen alongside actor Jimmy Sheirgill in Operation Mayfair and Bloody Daddy opposite Shahid Kapoor in the upcoming Ali Abbas Zafar directorial.
