"Doing Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan was one of the most important decisions of my life," says Ayushmann Khurrana
Ayushmann Khurrana is set to bust societal stereotypes again with his forthcoming release Anand L. Rai’s Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. The star who has created a genre of his own with his unique film choices is now set to play a gay man on-screen something which no leading star has ever portrayed on screen. And it looks like, Ayushmann is set to score eight hits in a row as the trailer of the film received unanimous appreciation and love from media and audiences.
We hear Ayushmann is set to watch the film with his entire family and his relatives. The reason - his family has been a pillar of strength for him, having supported all his life decisions and he considers Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan to be a defining moment of his film career in Indian cinema which he wants to celebrate with his family.
Ayushmann reveals, “I’m what I’m because of my family. They have constantly been a massive support system for me and they have always enabled me in taking the biggest life decisions. When I decided to pursue a career in showbiz, they stood by me like a rock. When I decided that my brand of cinema will stand for taboo-breaking subjects and characters like being a sperm donor in Vicky Donor, a man dealing with erectile dysfunction in Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, someone who is prematurely balding in Bala, to now proudly playing a gay man in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, they told me to always back my instincts and never think of what society or my immediate community will say about me.”
The star says many people from the industry told him to rethink playing a gay man on screen. Ayushmann reveals, “Their (family’s) confidence in me and my dreams has made me who I’m today, has made me what I stand for and I can’t thank them enough. Doing Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan was one of the most important decisions of my life. A lot of people from the industry asked me to rethink this because no leading hero has ever portrayed a gay man on screen. But I knew, this stereotype needed to be shattered and the time to change it, is now. I somehow knew I had to do it and take the plunge.”
The versatile star is set to do a screening of his film for his entire family soon and he is super excited to see their reaction! He says, “I think I have a free pass to do all things different and quirky and I wanted to raise nationwide awareness on the taboos linked with the LGBTQ community at large. I was sure that we have to make Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan as a full family entertainer that brings a smile to people’s faces, to spread the message of the film to as many people as possible across the country and I’m thrilled with how the movie has shaped up. My family thoroughly supported me in my decision and I want to see this film with my parents and all my relatives. It’s a moment that truly defines me in Indian cinema and I want to cherish this moment with my entire family.”

Alia Bhatt reacts to Rangoli’s comment on receiving flowers, says she doesn’t regret sending it
When Kangana Ranaut received the Padma Shri on January 26 from the Government Of India, one of the first colleagues from the entertainment industry to congratulate her with flowers and a note was Alia Bhatt.
Yes, the same Alia whose performance in Gully Boy Kangana had publicly ridiculed.
No worries. When I had spoken to Alia after Kangana’s outburst against her, she had said to me, “Let’s not respond to her. Let her talk. It’s better for me to keep quiet. Maybe she will like me in my next film or my next.”
On Alia’s request, I had dropped the long interview Alia had done in response to Kangana.
Now when Alia Bhatt tried to show her happiness at Kangana’s Padma Shri, she has been snubbed by Kangana’s sister Rangoli who has responded to the flowers by tweeting, “Yeh dekho Alia ji ne bhi Kangana ko phool bheje hain, Kangana ka pata nahin magar mujhe bahut maza aa raha hai.’
Speaking exclusively to me Alia says, “Let them react the way they want to. I am happy for Kangana.”

Malang: CBFC for the first time adds RHYMING anti-drug disclaimers
That the Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) was known to be extremely sanskaari a few years back in well-known. In today’s times, it evokes mixed reactions. It has passed certain films without major cuts despite controversial or disturbing themes. But there have been instances when they enforce cuts that are considered unjustified. The upcoming film Malang, sadly, comes under the latter category. Though there has been no censoring of its intimate and hot scenes, the drug bit of the film has come under the Censor scanner.
The trailer of the film indicated that it’s an action drama with the backdrop of the drug mafia in Goa. Also, it had a certain adult theme and hence, it’s no surprise that the film was awarded an ‘A’ certificate. However, despite the adults-only rating, the examining committee of the CBFC felt certain cuts are needed. At four places, the words ‘joint’, ‘pot’ and ‘ecstasy’ were mentioned. All these references were removed and replaced.
Not just that, the CBFC, in a first-ever such move, has directed the makers to insert as many as 6 anti-drug tickers, 2 of which are rhyming couplets. These disclaimers would come separately in drug-related scenes. These messages are: Drugs kill pain, finally the brain; Drugs are roads to death; Nashe ki maar barbad kare aadmi aur parivar; Drugs cost you more than just money; Addicts don’t get old, they die young; and, Don’t be insane, drugs ruin the brain. There will also be a similar kind of anti-drug warning in the beginning of the film in Hindi with its translation in English too.
The only visual cut of the film is with regards to a religious symbol shown twice in a building shot. And lastly, a disclaimer in the beginning will state the characters of the film are against atrocities and violence committed on women.
Once the makers agreed with the cuts, the censor certificate was provided to Malang on January 24. The total length of the film stands at 134 minutes. The film is directed by Mohit Suri and stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor, Disha Patani, Kunal Kemmu and Elli AvrRam. It releases on February 7.
