Mrunal Thakur is set to be honoured with Diversity in Cinema Award at the upcoming Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Having completed a remarkable year in the South film industry, Mrunal Thakur has swiftly risen to become one of the most sought-after names in contemporary cinema.

The Diversity in Cinema Award is set to be conferred upon Mrunal Thakur during the festival's highly anticipated annual gala award night scheduled for August 11. This recognition comes as she marks a pivotal milestone in her career – one year of a successful foray into the world of South Indian cinema.

BREAKING: Veer Savarkar biopic in legal trouble; Randeep Hooda claims to be the exclusive owner of film's IP rights; Anand Pandit and Sandeep Singh hit back; allege Randeep took away the film's footage without permission

The controversies surrounding the biopic Swantantrya Veer Savarkar don't seem to end. After the teaser was slammed by a section of society over its comments on Mahatma Gandhi, the film is now back in the news due to the feud between actor-director Randeep Hooda and producers Anand Pandit of Anand Pandit Motion Pictures and Sandeep Singh of Legend Studio.

Today, Randeep Hooda put up a notice on a trade website whereby he claimed that his banner Randeep Hooda Films is the sole owner of all the intellectual property rights to the film. As per sources, he sent a legal notice to Anand Pandit and Sandeep Singh as well.

When we reached out to Randeep Hooda, his legal consultant Karan Halai of M/s Halai and Co shared a statement that said, “Randeep Hooda under his banner Randeep Hooda Films has successfully written, produced, directed and completed the film based on Veer Savarkar despite all odds by facing various challenges coming his way including financial, mental and physical. He, with his utmost dedication (and) perseverance and aim of paying respect to the real hero i.e. the main character of the film, has thwarted obstructions created by other entities bent upon disrupting the making of the film, also attempting to infringe on his legal rights. He has faced grave agony and losses including risk to his life as one would be able to see the unprecedented weight loss he undertook and consequent risk of life so as to get in and fit appropriately in the main character of the film i.e. Veer Savarkar and attempt to do complete justice to the role he played. He is the sole owner of all the intellectual property rights of the said film and legally speaking, on a strong footing with all his legal options, open to ensure the timely release of the film which we are sure would be awaited keenly by public to get the real feel of one of our freedom struggle’s biggest hero of the times."

The legal consultants of Anand Pandit and Sandeep Singh, advocate Ravi Suryawanshi, Managing Partner of “Bar & Brief Attorneys”, said, “Our Client M/s Legend Studios Private Limited, alongwith M/s Anand Pandit Motion Pictures LLP. are the exclusive joint producers and owners of the entire 100% Intellectual Property Rights and exploitation rights of the film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. Our client is utterly shocked and surprised by the false and baseless claims made by Mr. Randeep Hooda about the ownership of the Intellectual Property Rights of the said Film. The producers M/s Legend Studios Private Limited, alongwith M/s Anand Pandit Motion Pictures LLP. have signed Mr. Randeep Hooda as an actor of the said Film. Therefore, the claim made by him has come as a shock to them and the producers are in the process of taking appropriate legal action (both civil and criminal) against Mr Randeep Hooda.”

A report in The Times of India yesterday stated that Anand Pandit and Sandeep Singh have alleged that Randeep Hooda took away the film’s footage from them without permission. They also claimed that despite multiple attempts, he hasn’t returned the footage.

Meanwhile, according to an article in Mid-Day, the producers claim that they had set two conditions, that Randeep Hooda would be paid nominally for his directorial duties and that he should complete the film in the stipulated budget of Rs. 20 crores. However, Randeep went over-budget.

Moreover, the report also stated that Randeep Hooda had sent four notices to Anand Pandit and Sandeep Singh, on November 3, 2022, December 8, 2022, June 7, 2023 and June 26, 2023.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani: Karan Johar defends Kunwal and Jamini’s love story as netizens argue about the film promoting infidelity

While Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is receiving love from Bollywood buffs, some netizens have expressed their displeasure towards a parallel track that runs in the film, which is a complex love story between Jamini Chatterjee and Kanwal Lund played by Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra respectively, who are the grandparents of the film’s leads Rani and Rocky aka Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. The film showcases the two characters pursuing a brief relationship with each other in their younger days, despite being married to other people and at a recent press conference, filmmaker Karan Johar defended their love track and also explained that he felt the love showcased between them was very ‘pure’.

At the press conference of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which was held in Mumbai on August 3, Karan Johar reacted to the ongoing online debate about infidelity, which was showcased in the film between Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra’s characters. Opening up about the same, Karan Johar said, “Shabanji as Jamini says it in an articulate manner that those seven days gave her a life-long feeling of love. Those seven days of relationship were so pure and beautiful that it stayed with her. Alia also says that do pal ka saath zindagi bhar ki mohabbat de jaata hai (a few moments of togetherness can give love that will last forever). I felt that's kind of emotion I wanted from Jamini and Kunwal's love story.”

He further addressed the subject of infidelity adding, “For me it was very pure. I felt it was incomplete though. Instead of being a forbidden fruit or dwelling on infidelity, it was an incomplete feeling because they sacrificed their feeling because they were both married and for their family. Then I go back to Gulzar saab's lines, 'Pyaar kahan poora hota hai uska pehla shabd hi adura hota hai (how can love be complete, when its first letter is incomplete).”

For the unversed, the film features Dharmendra as the husband of Jaya Bachchan, who plays the matriarch of the Randhawa household, Dhanlaxmi Randhawa. Talking about the film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani features Ranveer Singh as the quintessential Punjabi boy Rocky Randhawa and Alia Bhatt as a well-educated Bengali journalist Rani Chatterjee. The film released in theatres on July 28.

Khatron Ke Khiladi 13: Aishwarya Sharma responds after Soundous Moufakir reveals she disliked her from day one

It seems that Khatron Ke Khiladi 13 has got a Bigg Boss twist. Moroccan model and reality show star Soundous Moufakir did not mince words when she confessed her dislike towards co-contestant and popular television actress Aishwarya Sharma and now the latter too has reacted to the statements made by her colleague, further questioning about how Soundous was friendly to her and even made reels with her while shooting on the sets of the stunt based reality show in Cape Town.

Soundous Moufakir had opened up about her equation with Khatron Ke Khiladi 13 in a recent interview wherein she also spoke about Aishwarya Sharma. In this interview with Telly Chakkar, Soundous Moufakir said, “The bond wasn’t that good, she (Aishwarya) was sweet with other contestants. Between us, arguments took place and no such problems. Our energies didn’t match, we are very different personalities and in certain things that she does I felt very disrespected about it.” Although Soundous maintained that there wasn’t any major problem or issue, she added, “There wasn’t any fight that took place like Bigg Boss. It's just that I don’t like her energy and vibes and I don’t like the way she speaks so I wanted to keep a distance from her.”

Later, in another interview with Times of India, Aishwarya Sharma, reacted to these comments saying, “If you are good to me, I will be good to you. Soundous’ recent statement saying I was disrespectful and then not even giving a reason for that, just amused me. I am sure that the ‘disrespect' would not have fallen from the sky by itself for her to state that. She is trying to target me for no good reason is what I feel.”

Further she maintained, “I believe in a simple mantra in life – You give respect, you get respect." And then she continued, “I was friendly with everyone else on sets. If there is any hesitation between people is because the mind set is not alike for all, that doesn’t mean you count them and term them as ‘disrepectful’ or negative energy’. There is no harm in just being co-contestants to each other. Soundous’ remarks state hings otherwise. I am surprised and wondering where did her disrespect and negative energy comments go when she was making reels with me or shooting reality bytes which is aired on the channel?”

Speaking of their past work, Soundous Moufakir is known for shows like MTV Roadies and MTV Splitsvilla whereas Aishwarya Sharma gained fame as Pakhi in the Star Plus serial Ghum Hain Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, which she quit and joined the Rohit Shetty show Khatron Ke Khiladi 13.

Udaariyaan: Alisha Parveen, Anuraj Chahal, and Aditi Bhagat are all set to enter the show post the leap

Colors’ Udaariyaan, which is known for its romance, and drama, is all set to be taking a 20-year leap. Not too long ago, Twinkle Arora had revealed about quitting the show and now, the makers have unveiled a new promo introducing the lead characters of the upcoming love triangle. Joining the show will be Alisha Parveen, portraying the role of Alia Randhawa, daughter of Nehmat and Ekam, Anuraj Chahal as Armaan Gill, and Aditi Bhagat as Aasmaa Dhillon, daughter of Harleen.

Speaking of the upcoming track, Alia Randhawa is a rebellious soul who considers Nehmat her greatest adversary. She believes that Nehmat drove her mother away and selfishly took her father, mistaking Harleen for her real mother. Armaan is a 25-years old high-spirited guy, who holds a special place in Alia’s heart, and believes there’s nothing a jugaad can’t fix. On the other hand, Harleen's biological daughter, Aasmaa is a dreamer raised in Canada but carries a profound love for India in her heart. As fate would have it, the lives of Alia, Armaan, and Aasmaa intertwine in unexpected ways. How will Alia, Armaan, and Aasmaa’s paths cross? What will be their ‘Udaariyaan’?

Speaking about entering the show, Alisha Parveen said, “I am excited about playing the role of Alia, a feisty and rebellious girl, who thinks that the solution to all her problems is flying to Canada. Adarsh Gourav to star in Reema Kagti's Superman of Malegaon

Actor Adarsh Gourav will be joining Reema Kagti’s next movie, Superman of Malegaon, which is based on the Malegaon film industry and, needless to say, the actor is really excited to be part of a movie on such an interesting subject. Malegaon Film Industry, aka Malliwood, might not be as big as Bollywood but their movies are made with so much passion. They are known to make low-budgeted spoof movies.

Adarsh says, “When Reema told me about Malegaon, I knew I was going to say yes to the film. I have heard about the Malegaon Film industry before and it is quite intriguing how they make a movie or even finance it. They are a different world in itself. It is one of the most underrated film industries that churns out some fun films with a 100% business return. It was high time that the industry got the limelight it deserves.”

On the other work front, Adarsh Gourav dons a very 80s look for Guns & Gulaabs, which is a comedy crime thriller which is created and directed by Raj and DK. It is based in the 90s world of crime and violence. Rajkummar Rao, Gulshan Devaiah, Dulquer Salmaan, and TJ Bhanu will also be playing important roles in the movie.
