Jean-Marc Vallée, director of Dallas Buyers Club and Big Little Lies, dies at 58; cause of death unknown

Jean-Marc Vallée, director of films including Dallas Buyers Club and TV projects such as Big Little Lies, has died at age of 58, outside Quebec City. The cause of death was not immediately known.

According to Variety, his producing partner, Nathan Ross, said in a statement, “Jean-Marc stood for creativity, authenticity and trying things differently. He was a true artist and a generous, loving guy. Everyone who worked with him couldn’t help but see the talent and vision he possessed. He was a friend, creative partner and an older brother to me. The maestro will sorely be missed but it comforts knowing his beautiful style and impactful work he shared with the world will live on.”

Born in Montreal, he studied film at the Université du Québec. After making music videos and short films, he made his first feature Black List. After making 2005’s acclaimed Quebec film C.R.A.Z.Y., partially based on his own life, he directed The Young Victoria, which garnered three Academy Award nominations.

Jean-Marc Vallée earned an Oscar nomination for Best Editing for 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club, which won Oscars for Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey. The film was based on the true story of Ron Woodroof, an AIDS patient who smuggled pharmaceutical drugs into Texas and distributed them to fellow AIDS patients through the Dallas Buyers Club.

The next year, he directed Wild, starring Reese Witherspoon and based on the bestselling memoir about a former heroin addict who hikes the Pacific Crest Trail to help find herself. He continued to work with Witherspoon on the HBO series Big Little Lies, for which he won the Emmy for directing for limited series, movie or special. Adapted from the bestselling Liane Moriarty, the limited series also starred Laura Dern, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley, and drew acclaim for its lushly photographed look at the lives of wealthy coastal families who must confront a sudden death in their midst.His next HBO project was another suspenseful HBO mini-series based on a popular book, Sharp Little Objects.

For the upcoming projects, Jean-Marc Vallée was set to direct another series for HBO, Gorilla and the Bird, based on a memoir by Zack McDermott about a public defender who suffers a sudden psychotic break.

He is survived by two children and three siblings.

Prernaa V Arora and TIPS collaborate for the film Hari UP; Sajid Samji to direct

Filmmaker Sajid Samji of the writer-director duo Sajid-Farhad has announced his first solo directorial. Titled Hari UP, the film is presented by TIPS Industries, Bay Films, and Prernaa V Arora. Shivin Narang will be the lead actor in the film.

Presenter Kumar Taurani ji says, "TIPS is contributing one of the best music for Hari UP the film has an important social message, the music of the film is a different attempt from us to surprise the audience with something very special, we have already worked with Sajid in the past and its a great experience collaborating with Prernaa."

Prernaa V Arora says, "How my film Toilet Ek Prem Katha brought a contribution to the society this film is also based on the teachings of our Prime Minister Shree Narendra Modi ji and is an attempt to bring a change in the society, the message this time is 'HridayPariwartan'. I  have always been attached to films with a social message and social cause that’s been my forte one of the greatest films like Rustom, Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Padman and now presenting this film in collaboration with TIPS Industries is an attempt on a subject that will touch everyone’s heart. The film introduces two protagonists who are going to be a surprise package. The father and antagonist characters will be played by profound actors from the industry. The leading actor is Shivin and there is a surprise and twist to the story.

BTS’ Jungkook and Yumi’s Cells actress Lee Yoo Bi’s agencies deny dating rumours; Big Hit Music to take legal action

The agencies of BTS’ Jungkook and South Korean actress Lee Yoo Bi have denied reports that say that the two are in a relationship. The rumours began to take over the internet in the past few days and the agencies were quick to put a halt to the speculations.

According to Korean tabloid Soompi, Lee Yoo Bi’s agency Y-Bloom Entertainment commented, “That’s a groundless [rumor]. Lee Yoo Bi and Jungkook’s dating news make no sense. They’ve never met, and they don’t know each other. Among the BTS members, Lee Yoo Bi knew Suga, but that was a long time ago. We don’t even know if they’re in touch right now.”

On the same day, Jungkook’s label BigHit Music stated that it is not true that Jungkook is dating Lee Yoo Bi. The agency is taking regular legal action against malicious posts and false information related to BTS.

Recently, one YouTuber, who posts content about K-pop stars, uploaded a video that claimed the two stars were dating. According to the video, Lee Yoo Bi is a fan of Jungkook, and she engaged in “lovestagram” by posting purple hearts on her Instagram account.

Also, it was pointed out that Jungkook’s older brother and Lee Yoo Bi’s younger sister are following each other on social media. In addition, the YouTuber shared that the two stars wore matching clothes and bracelets and that Jungkook fits Lee Yoo Bi’s description of her ideal type, which is a “manly man with pretty eyes.”

On the work front, Yoo Bi was last seen as Ruby in Kim Go Eun and Ahn Bo Hyun starrer drama Yumi’s Cells. Meanwhile, BTS’ ‘Butter’ earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards which will be held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on January 31, 2022.

Omicron genome sequencing data for Kareena Kapoor Khan turns out negative

Kareena Kapoor Khan's genome sequencing data for Omicron has come out negative, according to BMC. On December 12, the actress tested positive for Covid-19. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation sent her Covid-19 sample for genetic sequencing (BMC). Her sample has now been confirmed as being negative for the Omicron variant.

Kareena Kapoor Khan, who was diagnosed with Covid on December 12, was eager for her home isolation to end. BMC has revealed that her Omicron genome sequencing data has come back negative. The actress was seen at annual Kapoor family Christmas lunch on Saturday.

Other celebrities' samples were also sent for genome sequencing including that of Amrita Arora, Seema Khan, and Maheep Kapoor. They had also tested positive for Covid after attending Karan Johar's get-together.

Amrita Arora, who was also at the dinner with Kareena, tested positive for Covid-19 and has been quarantined. Apart from them, Maheep Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, and Seema Khan all tested positive for Covid-19. Karan Johar had tested negative for Covid-19.

Out of all these, Laxmii managed to top the charts in terms of viewership followed by Hungama 2 and Shiddat.

Paul Bettany says his chats with Johnny Depp made public amid latter’s libel case ‘was an Unpleasant and strange’

English actor Paul Bettany says that having his text messages become part of the court record during Johnny Depp’s libel suit against U.K. tabloid The Sun was strange and unpleasant.

In an interview with The Independent published this past weekend, when the WandaVision and Uncle Frank actor was asked about his 2013 text exchange with fellow actor Johnny Depp regarding the Fantastic Beasts actor’s ex-wife Amber Heard, messages that became public during Depp’s defamation suit against The Sun‘s publisher over the tabloid’s use of “wife beater” to describe him, Bettany said that it’s “a really difficult subject to talk about” and noted that answering would “just pour fuel on the fire,” before chalking the entire situation up to be “very strange.”

“It was a strange moment,” Bettany said. “What was strange about it was you suddenly have one of the most scabrous newspapers in London and their lawyers pouring through your texts for the last 10 years. Can you imagine what it would be like, honestly, to have a bunch of lawyers go through every one of your emails and texts for 10 years?”

“All I can tell you was that it was an unpleasant feeling,” Bettany added.

Bettany’s communications with Depp were included in the 132-page ruling on the case in 2020. Depp and Bettany texted about Heard, with Depp suggesting they burn her, among other graphic things, while Bettany, apparently taking it as a joke, wrote back and suggested a “drowning test” to determine if “she’s a witch.”

Justice Andrew Nicol’s dismissed Depp’s libel claim in November 2020, after finding the allegations that Depp had assaulted Heard on multiple occasions and that she feared for her life were “substantially true,” and opening the door for other publications referring to Depp as a wife beater to have less fear of legal retaliation.

The judge also refused permission for Depp to appeal the decision directly with the court, but on December 9, 2020, the actor applied directly to Britain’s court of appeal in an effort to overturn the ruling. In March 2021, two court of appeal judges said the actor couldn’t challenge the High Court’s rejection of his libel lawsuit against The Sun publisher, according to the Associated Press.

Following the November 2020 court ruling, Warner Bros. severed its ties with Depp, replacing him in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. In August 2021, Depp said he was being boycotted by Hollywood and later in September that cancel culture had gotten “so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe” while appearing at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
